Kahoot! In the Classroom.
This presentation will show teachers and parents how they can set up Kahoot quizzes for their students or children. This interactive online game allows students to answer questions and try and beat their fellow class mates at answering questions based off of curriculum. This is a fun and inventive way to get the kids involved and excited about learning. Teachers can use Kahoot to help with review, objective learning, and even new concepts.
Outline of Tutorial
First access the Kahoot! website at https://getkahoot.com/. You can then create a free account, to do this click the large purple button. You will be asked to answer a few simple questions like your role (ex teacher, student, or other), the school or university if applicable, create a user name, enter your email, and create a password. That is it you now have a free account that allows you to access public Kahoot quizzes and make your own.
To make a Kahoot quiz of your own click the corresponding tab quiz, discussion, or survey depending on what you want to do under the Create new Kahoot! logo. I will be using the quiz tab for this demo.
1. Pick a title for the quiz mine will be Money and Values!
2. Start entering your questions and the answers. For each question you can add a video, picture, or graphic to make the quiz more fun and help the players.
3. The program gives you one question template to start in order to add a question click the add question button at the bottom of the scene. Then repeat the first step.
4. After all your questions are added save your quiz. This is done by clicking save and continue at the bottom of the screen.
5. Now you can change level of grading on your quiz. You have the option of beginner, intermediate, or hard. You also need to tell a little bit about your quiz and what it can be used for in the classroom.
6. This is where the fun begins. After the quiz is published your students can play.
Each quiz allows students to log in with their chosen nick name and play as a class. Student access kahoot.it in order to play. The teacher gives the students a game-pin in order to log into the selected game. Once all the students have logged in the quiz can begin. Students log in with their tablets, phones, or lap tops to play the question is displayed over the smart board and they can answer. At the end of each question the students can see if they answered correctly, the correct answer, how is in the lead, and a graph showing what answers were given. At the end of the quiz the leader board is shown and the teacher has a chance to rate and recommend the quiz.
That is all there is to it have fun get creative and let your imagination sore. There are so many things you can do with this great piece of educational technology to get students to love learning. Students that are struggling with vocabulary could benefit from the use of this tool to help them grasp and remember definitions. Teachers could utilize this tool to create a fun and engaging way for students to use as unit review. Students could also be able to use Kahoot! quizzes to gain a better understanding of content area material in all subjects from reading to math.
I selected the method of a Prezi to present this tutorial because this application allowed me to show with pictures and words how to utilize the site. I also liked this application because it allowed me the chance to only show the parts of the set up process that I wanted to be seen. The quiz set up can be long because of the amount of information that is included and a video with this in it would have been a little bit boring for people to watch. I think that the Prezi was the smartest choice for teaching this educational tool.
